25th Anniversary of the Day of Prayer for Peace

October 27, 2011 marks the 25th Anniversary of the historic Day of Prayer for Peace that took place in Assisi, Italy in 1986.  This most special gathering left an enduring legacy of hope for peace that has continued to touch people of good-will of every age and in every walk of life. During these last twenty-five years, commemorative gatherings have been organized and diverse celebrations of hope and commitment have been conducted to honor the significance of the Spirit of Assisi, so evident and moving in 1986.

A strong invitation to commemorate the 25th Anniversary has been issued by the Conference of the Franciscan Family for over a year.  Click here to visit the website that has been prepared to assist all who wish to remember the Day of Prayer for Peace and to be transformed by the Spirit of Assisi. Not surprisingly, many people who are interested to learn about and participate in the Franciscan heritage of peace-making are eager to learn what Franciscan colleges and universities of the AFCU are doing to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Day of Prayer for Peace.

In response to this special interest, the AFCU has generated a special series of “25th Anniversary Peace Forums” through which Franciscan colleges and universities can share information about plans for commemorating the 25th Anniversary.
